December 13 - CFDDC's Christmas Party & Canis Major Awards Banquet Robert & Janelle Walkley's Residence Tampa, FL Starts:7 PM
For those of you who missed this banquet, you really missed an amazing night of fun and superb dining at the Walkley residence. We appreciate the Walkley's welcoming us in to their new home for some of the best Italian food ever cooked. We started out with some wonderful appetizers, bruschetta and fried antipasto olives with drinks. The Fahles brought a spectacular slide show of pictures taken throughout the 2008 season of various club members that was running throughout the evening on the nearby big screen TV. After everyone arrived and mingled a bit, we sat down for the first course of the meal which was an Italian salad with fresh parmesan cheese. Then the second course was three types of pasta: lasagna, shrimp pesto pasta and linguine alfredo that was all very delicious. Bob forgot to mention to everyone that there was a third course, but interrupted before the premature birthday cake presentation. The third course was three types of meat: mild Italian sausage, Italian flavored ribs and rosemary seasoned chicken that was beyond delicious. Then we all gathered to wish Lillian Arnold a Happy Birthday for her 1 year old celebration and enjoyed some Publix birthday cake, Janelle's pine nut cookies and various hershey chocolates for desert. Then Chuck Hensley took the floor and presented this year's 2008 Canis Major awards listed below. Last but not least, Janice Hensley played Mrs. Claus and we participated in a gift exchange that was fairly low drama other than a few cases of thievery. I hope no one left unsatisfied with the amazing dinner, great photography of the club, much deserved awards of excellence, holiday gifts for dogs and humans and most of all enjoying the company of the attending club members! We appreciate every club member who participated in 2008 and hope to see everyone soon in 2009! 2008 Canis Major Overall Champions Tracy Farmer & Rusty - Super Sport Runner Up: Gary Duke & Bayer - Super Open 2008 Canis Major Super Open Champions Gary Duke & Bayer Runner Up: Jack Fahle & Tali 2008 Canis Major Super Sport Champions Tracy Farmer & Rusty Runner Up: Chris Engel & Bandit 2008 Canis Major Sport Champions Scott Shinham & Jake Runner Up: Julie Engel & Bandit 2008 Canis Major Director's Choice Award Michael Jones & Specks 2008 Canis Major Honorable Mentions Karl Soderburg & Seiko Mako 8.5 & 8 points in each round of distance this year! A SUPER HUGE thanks to Total Performance Premium Dog Food, and to Hero Disc USA for supporting Team Maggie the last two years!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First off, check this photo out: This is the UFO trophy, handmade by Tom, and it is really cool. One of those things that when you walk by the reg tent first thing in the morning and they are pulling out the trophies, you take a quick glance at it and wipe the drool off your chin. A HUGE thanks to the UFO staff and all the competitors who showed up this weekend. When we got to the field early Friday morning, oh GOD but it was WINDY and the rain was blowing almost sideways. Again, Gary and Sarah Duke rolled out the red carpet for Maggie and provided us with tent space and all the amenities of a 4 star hotel. I had to sit in the car all day, but they took care of Mags for me. Thanks TONS to the Dukes and the entire FL club for always making us feel welcome when we travel down there. And to Sarah for her spot on releases of Maggie and helping get her wound up. |

Ok, so after I had a dismal showing at Skyhoundz 3 weeks ago I thought I’d try it again at a last chance qualifier and see if I could get in the action at this years USDDN Last Chance Qualifier. I left work around 3:30 on Thursday and went home to pack and grab the dog … got out around 6 or so. The GPS said I was 7:25 minutes from my destination in Cartersville Ga and I hadn’t eaten all day so I figured a stop for Bandit to Pee and me to eat we’d get in around 2A and since the competition started early that meant I was starting out bad |
